Hi, today's question comes from Jason. He wanted to know what he should look for when buying a turmeric supplement.
I have a great recommendation on which turmeric supplement he should buy, but I'll save that for the end. The first thing I'm going to tell him is what he should look for whenever you buy a supplement with turmeric.
So the first thing you have to understand is turmeric is a natural, anti-inflammatory herb. It's very safe and very effective at reducing inflammation and joint pain. It's been shown to help liver health, digestive health and it's a really fabulous nutrient.
But what makes turmeric so special is its curcuminoid activity. The amount of curcuminoid in the formula will determine how productive and efficient that formula is.
Here's the problem.
Most supplements use turmeric powder, which is great if you're cooking with it. However, the problem is, in a supplement, you're only using capsules that are a thousand milligrams. 1000 milligrams of turmeric powder only has about 5% curcuminoids. So you're not gonna get the bioactivity that you need to reduce the inflammation with a formula like that.
This means you have to make sure the formula has a turmeric extract. The turmeric extracts are standardized at 95% curcuminoids which is what you need.
Number two, make sure it has BioPerine. BioPerine is a black pepper extract that really increases the absorption and the bioactivity of the curcuminoids.
And the number three thing is not necessarily about the supplement, but when you do take turmeric, make sure you're taking it with a meal, because turmeric needs food to help its absorption.
Now, what formula do I love the most? It is actually my own new joint formula.
I have 800 milligrams of turmeric extract, which is standardized at 95% curcuminoids. I also have bamboo extract, which is high in silica to support collagen synthesis and hyaluronic acid, which helps synovial fluid. That's what helps support the cartilage and collagen health, where joints form.
Lastly, I have something called mummiyo, an incredible healing nutrient that comes from the caves in the Himalayan Mountains. It helps tendon and ligament strength, and reduces inflammation as well.
The formula is called Regenerate, and it’s available HERE
I didn't mean this to be a big pitch video, but he asked the question, so I had to give my honest answer. I hope this helps and if you have any other health questions or concerns, always feel free to reach out.
